The first ever prepared English mustard was created by chemist William Taylor in Newport Pagnell, UK. The salt glazed pots used to package this creamy yellow condiment were used from 1830 until 1941 and supplied to shops like Sainsburys and Harrods.

Interesting fact, if the name Taylor’s Mustard Newport Pagnel(l) is spelt with one L then they are the earliest of the pots dating from 1830!

These wonderful little snippets of history were excavated and salvaged over a 9 month period at a Victorian tip site (dump), in London.
