Antique Spanish plaster Madonna and child. As with many ancient statues it’s not unusual for limbs, noses and heads to be missing as these are generally the weakest points of the sculpture. From our research, we have deduced that this plaster figure is a model of an ancient original as the head and hands show no indication that they were broken off after the statue was made but actually modelled from a sculpture that was already missing these parts.
The detail is exquisite with Madonna’s original glass eyes, flowing locks and wonderful folds to the fabric.
